Ice climber in Utah dies after pushing another climber out of the way of falling ice

Deputies in Utah are praising the “courageous, brave” actions of an ice climber they mentioned died after pushing one other climber out of the way in which of falling ice.

The 41-year-old girl was climbing ice falls in Duchesne County close to Indian Canyon with two others Sunday when an ice column all of a sudden broke away, the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Workplace mentioned, with out naming the climbers.

“One climber pushed their fellow feminine climber, age 21, out of the way in which, which most likely saved her life,” the sheriff’s workplace mentioned. “Sadly, the climber that pushed her fellow climber out of the way in which … was trapped beneath two large blocks of ice and didn't survive.”

A 34-year-old man was injured after falling about 40 ft when the ice column broke, officers mentioned.

The 21-year-old girl climbed down the terrain and drove to Duchesne Metropolis to name for assist.

After rescuers arrived, the person was hoisted off the mountain and airlifted to a close-by hospital with severe accidents, the sheriff’s workplace mentioned.

“Our honest condolences … to the household of this courageous, brave girl who misplaced her life whereas saving one other. We hope that each one might discover consolation and all the nice and cozy help will prevail over your hearts whereas mourning the lack of the one you love,” the sheriff’s workplace mentioned.
