California cop charged with illegal possession of AR-15, tracer ammo at his home

A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy is accused of illegally possessing an assault rifle and specialised bullets  after authorities discovered them in a closet at his residence, District Legal professional George Gascón introduced on Thursday, April 6.

Brandon Garmon, 45, was charged with felony counts of possessing the weapon and a harmful system.

Authorities discovered the unregistered AR-15 assault rifle and tracer ammunition — a kind of spherical constructed with a small pyrotechnic cost that burns because the bullet leaves the barrel  — in Garmon’s residence after serving him with a search warrant in April 2020.

It was not clear why he was not charged till three years later.

“It's unlawful to own an AR-15 assault rifle in California and I count on everybody, together with sworn officers, to comply with the regulation,” Gascón mentioned in a information launch. “These weapons have repeatedly led to huge lack of life throughout this nation and I totally intend to implement the ban in Los Angeles.”

Garmon’s arraignment can be scheduled for a later date.
