Lately my state senator, Sen. John Johnson, R-North Ogden, made the puzzling assertion that “Anti-racism is racism.”

That’s type of like saying an anti-aircraft missile is definitely an plane development package.

I need Sen. Johnson and all who maintain that viewpoint to know that I disagree with them. Rejecting racism is anti-racism.

I need him to know that I reject racism. I reject it when it’s covert. I reject it when it’s overt.

I need him to know that it’s painfully, clearly apparent that racism exists in our state and our nation, and that “coloration blind” legal guidelines are usually not sufficient to confront and destroy that racism.

No person is racist solely by belonging to a race, however no person could be excused from the racist penalties of the society they create solely as a result of they didn’t intend that society to have racist penalties.

I need him to know that it’s doable to exclude individuals just by neglecting them. Let’s work to make them complete.

And I need him to know that if he needs to signify me, he hasto reject racism too. He has to study to be anti-racist, or I gained’t vote for him.
