Viola Davis achieved EGOT standing after profitable her first Grammy held at Crypto.com Area in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 5. An EGOT refers to profitable a quartet of leisure awards: an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.
The actress received for one of the best audiobook narration and storytelling recording award for her memoir, “Discovering Me,” on the sixty fifth Annual Grammy Awards premiere ceremony forward of the primary awards program. Davis now joins the record because the 18th member of the EGOT membership, uniting with Andrew Lloyd Webber, John Legend, Mike Nichols, Mel Brooks, Jennifer Hudson, Whoopi Goldberg and others.
The win follows her Emmy achievement for the 2015 sequence “Find out how to Get Away With Homicide,” a Tony for her 2001 efficiency in “King Hedley” and “Fences” in 2010, in addition to an Oscar for “Fences” in 2017. Davis is now the third Black girl to assert EGOT rating.
“I wrote this e book to honor the 6-year-old Viola — to honor her life, her pleasure, her trauma, her all the pieces,” Davis stated in her acceptance speech. “And it has been such a journey. I simply EGOT!”
Davis’ memoir, printed in April 2022, displays on her journey as an actress and the racism she skilled as a Black girl working in Hollywood. Different contenders for the award included Mel Brooks, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Questlove and Jamie Foxx.
