On birthdays

Birthday of however a single pang

That there are much less to return —

Afflictive is the Adjective

However prosperous the doom —

On the ability of poetry

I dwell in Chance —

A fairer Home than Prose —

Extra quite a few of Home windows —

Superior — for Doorways —

Of Chambers because the Cedars —

Impregnable of eye —

And for an eternal Roof

The Gambrels of the Sky —

Of Guests — the fairest —

For Occupation — This —

The spreading huge my slender Palms

To collect Paradise —

On dying

Demise is the supple Suitor

That wins ultimately —

It's a stealthy Wooing

Carried out first

By pallid innuendoes

And dim strategy

However courageous ultimately with Bugles

And a bisected Coach

It bears away in triumph

To Troth unknown

And Kindred as responsive

As Porcelain.

On ache and letting go

After nice ache, a proper feeling comes —

The Nerves sit ceremonious, like Tombs —

The stiff Coronary heart questions ‘was it He, that bore,’

And ‘Yesterday, or Centuries earlier than’?

The Ft, mechanical, go spherical —

A Wood method

Of Floor, or Air, or Ought —

Regardless grown,

A Quartz contentment, like a stone —

That is the Hour of Lead —

Remembered, if outlived,

As Freezing individuals, recollect the Snow —

First — Chill — then Stupor — then the letting go —

On hope

Hope is the factor with feathers —

That perches within the soul —

And sings the tune with out the phrases —

And by no means stops — in any respect —

And sweetest — within the Gale — is heard —

And sore should be the storm —

That might abash the little Chicken

That saved so many heat —

I’ve heard it within the chillest land —

And on the strangest Sea —

But — by no means — in Extremity,

It requested a crumb — of me.
