Kumar will defend

Medicare Belief Fund

Why does Rishi Kumar criticize Rep. Anna Eshoo for not defending seniors from Medicare Benefit? Does this “disqualify him for Congress”?

Simply the alternative – Kumar understands, as do many in Congress and the press, that Medicare Benefit is open to exploitation by non-public insurance coverage firms, who can deny protection for prior situations, and a transfer away from Medicare for All, which Kumar helps. Eshoo doesn’t, and as Chair of the Home Well being Subcommittee, she must be our guard in opposition to fraud and exploitation of the Medicare Fund. But Eshoo helps ACO Attain, which is depleting the Medicare Belief Fund, as was confirmed by the Inspector Basic report on Backdoor Privatization.

Kumar is conscious of this hazard; Eshoo, apparently, will not be. Time for a youthful, extra energetic consultant for Silicon Valley.

Mayoral debates go away

a lot to be desired

For years, I’d choose speech and debate tournaments in public coverage, together with the latest state event at Santa Clara College. My vote may imply you develop into a state champion, or not. I like watching and judging debates.

I've been so upset within the mayoral “boards” varied teams have placed on. Sometimes they supply inquiries to the candidates beforehand, and we hear sound bites. No rebuttals, or forwards and backwards between the candidates, what we name conflict in debate judging.

That is detrimental to voters that tune in to observe these “boards.” Conflict helps voters decide variations between them. And I’d relatively hear from the candidates themselves than unbiased expenditure mailer hit items.

The latest WGNA discussion board, moderated by former San Jose Councilman Pierluigi Oliverio and a Willow Glen Neighborhood Affiliation board member was an incredible instance of a correct debate between the mayoral candidates. I counsel voters go to www.wgna.web and watch a correct “debate” between our decisions.

Matt Mahan wins.

Prop. 28 will guarantee

well-rounded training

As a mother or father and long-time public college arts educator, I'm inspired by the potential of Proposition 28: Extra Funding for Arts and Music Training in Colleges. I've witnessed the unimaginable affect the humanities can have on scholar studying. As college students sort out arts challenges, vital pondering expertise are developed and stretched, as are different qualities like persistence, self-confidence and empathy for others.

Employers usually inform us they search for job candidates with inventive pursuits. California’s inventive sector contributed practically 23% to the state’s 2020 GRP. If our college students are to compete in our personal state economic system, the humanities have to be a part of a well-rounded training.

The Division of Training acknowledges the humanities as core content material. But, artwork instruction is usually decreased or minimize fully from college plans to accommodate different wants. Sustainable funding designated by Proposition 28 would change that – for our college students as we speak and their futures tomorrow.

Prop. 31 is nothing

greater than prohibition

I'm very upset that tThe Mercury Information recommends Sure on Proposition 31 (“Vote for Prop. 31 to finish promoting of flavored tobacco,” Web page A6, Aug. 3).

It's already unlawful for anybody beneath 21 to buy tobacco merchandise of any type. This proposition does nothing to stop children from persevering with to buy black-market merchandise.

Proposition 31 is prohibition, which takes away the selection for adults 21 and over to legally buy menthol cigarettes or flavored vapes. It would ship adults to the identical black market children use.

Please vote no on Proposition 31.
