Former Vice President Mike Pence addressed questions Wednesday at Georgetown College after encouraging college students to point out civility to these with differing political views. After delivering his speech, a scholar requested Pence whether or not he’d vote for former President Donald Trump in 2024 if he wins the Republican get together’s nomination for president.
Pence smiled politely and paused for a second earlier than answering: “Properly, there could be someone else I’d want extra.” The viewers applauded with scattered laughter.
“What I can inform you is that I've each confidence that the Republican Get together will type out management,” Pence continued. “All my focus has been on the midterm elections and it'll keep that method for the subsequent 20 days.”
Pence concluded, saying, “However after (the midterm elections) we’ll be fascinated with the longer term — ours and the nation’s, and I’ll preserve you posted.”

Pence’s feedback parallel what he mentioned final month at Utah Valley College. “I’ll preserve you posted,” he replied to a query of whether or not he'll run for president in 2024. He's broadly thought of to be laying the groundwork for a possible presidential marketing campaign.
Trump has not introduced whether or not he'll run for president for the 2024 election. Again in March, Trump urged in an interview that Pence wouldn't be his working mate if he decides to run.
“Mike and I had an awesome relationship apart from the essential issue that passed off on the finish. We had an excellent relationship,” Trump informed the Washington Examiner. “I haven’t spoken to him in a very long time.”
Pence refused Trump’s demand that he not certify the electoral faculty vote on Jan. 6, 2021. A mob of Trump supporters laid siege to the U.S. Capitol and a few shouted they had been seeking to hold Pence.
Pence has distanced himself from Trump in a number of speeches all year long. “There are these in our get together who consider that because the presiding officer over the joint session of Congress, I possessed unilateral authority to reject electoral faculty votes. And I heard this week, President Trump mentioned I had the fitting to ‘overturn the election.’ President Trump is unsuitable. … I had no proper to overturn the election,” Pence mentioned emphatically at a Federalist Society dinner.
Whereas different potential Republican presidential candidates have mentioned they won't run in 2024 if Trump jumps in, Pence has signaled the alternative. A GOP operative informed the press earlier this 12 months, “Pence is doing a greater job of defining himself as an impartial determine within the get together.”
