EUGENE, Oregon — An offensive chant emanating from Oregon followers within the second half of the Geese’ 40-21 win over BYU on Saturday at Autzen Stadium drew a rebuke on Twitter from Utah Gov. Spencer Cox.
The derogatory chant, which focused members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who're generally known as Mormons, was just like what USC followers chanted at BYU final November. Video of Oregon followers’ habits circulated on Twitter shortly after the sport ended.
“Non secular bigotry alive and celebrated in Oregon,” Cox mentioned in a tweet Saturday.

Messages to an Oregon athletics division spokesperson looking for remark had not been returned as of 8 p.m. MDT Saturday evening.
Saturday’s recreation kicked off at 1:30 p.m. MDT and was televised nationally by Fox Sports activities. It was not clear whether or not the chants have been audible on the tv broadcast.
Final November, after BYU defeated Southern California 35-31 on the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, USC’s athletic division issued a public apology the next day by way of Twitter for “an offensive chant” it says got here from its pupil cheering part.
The chants have been clearly heard a number of instances that evening on ESPN’s nationwide broadcast of the sport.
