Extremist Prop. 1
deserves no vote
Gov. Gavin Newsom not too long ago spent $100,000 for billboards in seven states providing California’s assist in procuring abortions via a brand new web site, abortion.ca.gov (“Newsom indicators package deal of local weather payments,” Web page A1, Sept. 17).
He has signed many payments this 12 months increasing entry to abortion with elevated expenditures. Proposition 1, missing because it does any fetal-viability limits, would appear to be a part of this effort by our state elected officers to supply extra abortion prospects right here. The one different state constitutional modification going to voters this fall, Vermont’s Proposal 5, consists of limiting language.
In keeping with an August Rasmussen ballot, 63% of Californians assume abortion shouldn't be allowed after six months of being pregnant. I hope the smart 63% will rebuke this excessive agenda by voting down Proposition 1.

Competing playing

Re. “Disentangling advertisements on playing props, homelessness and California tribes,” Web page A1, Sept. 12:
I've been confused by the advertisements for Proposition 26 and Proposition 27. Thanks on your front-page article within the Sept. 12 paper.
When a difficulty is sophisticated and the implications unclear, I normally vote no on a proposition. I will likely be voting no on each Proposition 26 and Proposition 27 in November.

Bay Space flats are
just too costly
Ethan Varian’s article, on Monday, Sept. 12 (“Residence building lags in Bay Space,” Web page A1) fails to keep in mind the emptiness elements in our Bay Space cities.
He cites San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose because the cities not establishing new flats. These three cities have the best emptiness charges within the Bay Space. San Francisco has about 15,000 vacancies, San Jose 5,029 vacancies and Oakland 3,834 vacancies. On the San Francisco Peninsula alone there's a 6.9% emptiness price. We don’t want new condo buildings. What we'd like is to make the flats we have now extra reasonably priced to our renters.
The one purpose this many flats are vacant is that our residents can't afford the hire that landlords demand. That is additionally one of many causes so lots of our residents are homeless. Building of extra flats is just not going to treatment these issues. It would solely make the present state of affairs worse.

Cease supporting dictators
with U.S. tax dollars
On Sept. 12, Azerbaijan attacked the sovereign, democratic, Christian nation of Armenia by concentrating on and shelling civilian-populated facilities alongside Armenia’s southeastern border. Why ought to People be outraged? As a result of Azerbaijan has obtained over $150 million in U.S. safety help over the previous 5 years alone.
We can't condemn Russia’s Vladimir Putin for invading Ukraine and look the opposite approach when Azerbaijan’s autocrat, Ilham Aliyev, follows the Kremlin’s instance and invades a sovereign nation whereas profiting off of U.S. taxpayers.
I help the Home Decision condemning the unprovoked assault on Armenia. I thank the congressional delegation led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, which included Reps. Jackie Speier and Anna Eshoo, who visited Armenia to lend help for human rights and dignity, and referred to as out Azerbaijan over its unlawful, lethal actions.
America should help Armenia’s younger democracy. I urge the Biden administration to de-escalate the state of affairs earlier than it turns into one other genocide for Armenians.
