Eagle Mountain lately misplaced almost $1.13 million in an organized cybercrime, metropolis leaders introduced on Monday.
"This crime was orchestrated by an electronic mail impersonation whereby the person(s) accountable have been capable of painting themselves as a consultant of a vendor working carefully with town on a serious infrastructure mission," Eagle Mountain officers stated.
The incident occurred on Aug. 31. The town then took "instant motion" and contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Utah County Sheriff's Workplace and the seller, in response to the discharge.
Metropolis staff concerned within the incident have been cooperating with authorities.
"Additional investigation decided that the quantity stolen was transacted by an Automated Clearing Home switch. Since studying of the incident, (Eagle Mountain) has spent important time strengthening its monetary insurance policies concerning ACH funds," metropolis officers stated.
Metropolis spokesman Tyler Maffitt stated the cash was transferred in a single transaction.
