Second fire at vacant Oakland commercial building since May

OAKLAND — A vacant business constructing close to the Oakland airport that was broken by a hearth in Might sustained extra injury in one other hearth Friday morning, officers mentioned.

Nobody was injured within the hearth, which took a minimum of 35 firefighters nearly two hours to manage.

There have been no reported accidents to firefighters and nobody was discovered contained in the constructing.

The fireplace erupted about 5:45 a.m. Friday on the constructing at 8407 Edgewater Drive at Pendleton Means, which has fences across the property.

Responding firefighters have been met by thick black smoke and vivid flames. They used hose traces from three aerial ladders to assist battle the fireplace, which was deemed beneath management at 7:30 a.m.

The reason for the fireplace was beneath investigation.

The Might 19 hearth on the constructing was believed to have been began by squatters, officers mentioned.

Since then the fence had been erected across the property and after structural inspections it was thought of “purple tagged,” which means nobody was presupposed to be inside, officers mentioned.

The constructing is owned by the Port of Oakland.  Port spokeswoman Marilyn Sandifur mentioned  the constructing had already been scheduled for demolition after the sooner hearth and due to the Friday hearth “we'll expedite the demolition as a security measure.”
