California man drowns trying to save dogs at waterfall

A Siskiyou County man drowned whereas attempting to rescue his canine from a dashing creek.

Robert Lewis, 47, of Montague, was reported lacking at 12:12 p.m. Saturday by his spouse.

They'd hiked to Shackleford Falls, in Scott Valley west of the city of Fort Jones, and two of their canine had gotten stranded on the pool on the base of the 20-foot waterfall.

Lewis’ spouse advised rescuers she noticed her husband swept away by the present. He didn't resurface.

The search was hindered by Shackleford Creek’s sturdy water flows, unsafe even for knowledgeable emergency swimmers, the Siskiyou County sheriff’s workplace mentioned. The physique was discovered underwater round 1:50 p.m. Sunday and recovered by the sheriff’s dive group.

One of many canine was reportedly discovered useless, and the opposite remained lacking on Monday.
