MONTAUBAN, France (AP) — Samoan rugby participant Kelly Meafua has died after leaping from a bridge in France, his membership stated.
Montauban, a membership in France’s second division, stated in an announcement that the 31-year-old participant died within the early hours of Saturday after being pulled from the Tarn River.
Based on media experiences in France, Meafua jumped off the bridge throughout an evening out with buddies to have a good time the workforce’s victory Friday over Narbonne.
Montauban stated considered one of Meafua’s teammates tried to rescue him. That participant needed to be taken to a hospital, the place he was handled for hypothermia.
“Kelly was a participant who was nicely favored by everyone. His pleasure for all times was infectious and radiant. At present we've got misplaced a participant, a buddy and a brother,” the membership stated in an announcement.
The roadway of the Pont-Vieux is about 60 ft above the river in Montauban, a metropolis close to Toulouse.
Meafua, a former Samoa sevens participant, moved to France in 2015 to play with Narbonne earlier than a return to the southern hemisphere. He moved again to France’s second division in 2018 with Beziers, then signed with Montauban.
