Supervisors approve trail link between south San Jose county parks for $8.5 million

A brand new path will hyperlink Santa Teresa and Calero Park in south San Jose after Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously permitted the acquisition of an $8.5 million plot of land wedged between the 2 public areas.

The path, working north to south over a 47-acre stretch of land, will join Santa Teresa’s Stile Ranch path all the way down to Calero’s Lisa Killough path. The connection will in the end permit mountain bikers, hikers and horseback riders to go between 30 miles of footpaths between the 2 parks.

In approving the acquisition of the land, District 5 Supervisor Joe Simitian known as the motion a “second of nice satisfaction.”

In line with the county’s Parks and Recreation Division, the acquisition is a part of a wider aim of creating the world’s public greenspaces interconnected. The county made an identical transfer in 2016 with the acquisition of the Coyote Highlands and a path is underway between Harvey Bear Ranch and Anderson Lake Park.

The acquisition can also be in response to overcrowding within the space, unlawful parking and pedestrians crossing roads with out designated walkways. Along with the path, the county stated a car parking zone on the newly bought land is one choice being thought-about.

The land was bought from longtime Palo Alto developer Chares “Chop” Keenan, who stated he was giving up the plot due to his age.
