East Bay man charged with murder for allegedly running over pedestrian with minivan

OAKLAND — A 41-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murdering a person who he allegedly ran over with a minivan in a confrontation final month, courtroom information present.

Kevin Mak was charged Tuesday with homicide by vehicle within the loss of life of 66-year-old Chi Leung, courtroom information present. He's being held in Santa Rita Jail in Dublin with out bail.

The incident occurred on March 18, in response to police. Round 6:30 p.m., Mak allegedly confronted Leung, who was strolling on the 800 block of Alice Avenue in Oakland. In the course of the argument, Leung reportedly struck Mak’s minivan with a shovel.

Mak responded by backing the minivan up so it was going through Leung, then working him over, in response to police. Leung was hospitalized and died from his accidents eight days later.

Mak was initially arrested on suspicion of assault with a lethal weapon and launched, however police obtained a warrant for homicide after Leung’s loss of life, courtroom information present.

Police haven't provided principle concerning the topic of the argument that led to the violent confrontation. Mak’s subsequent courtroom date has been set for April 13, in response to courtroom information.
