Congressional candidate sues to use his new nickname on ballot

A Colorado congressional candidate is suing to be recognized on the poll by what he claims is his nickname: “Let’s Go Brandon.”

Dave Williams filed a petition Monday in Denver District Court docket requesting that Secretary of State Jena Griswold be ordered to position him on the poll as Dave “Let’s Go Brandon” Williams.

The candidate says he “and others” have recurrently referred to him by the nickname since December 2021 — when he certified for the Republican main — and that he makes use of it on his Fb, Twitter, Instagram and Gettr accounts.

“Let’s go, Brandon” is a reference to an insulting phrase directed towards President Biden.

Griswold rejected the nickname for poll use, claiming it's as an alternative a slogan. In his submitting, Williams identified that she had allowed a faculty board candidate final 12 months to be recognized as Blake “No Mandates” Regulation.

Williams, 35, has been a member of Colorado’s Legislature since 2017. He's difficult eight-term incumbent Doug Lamborn within the June 28 main for the state’s solidly Republican fifth congressional district, which incorporates Colorado Springs.

The biographical assertion on his marketing campaign web site says Williams is “a powerful supporter of President Donald Trump’s conservative insurance policies” and “believes corrupt institution Republicans are additionally in charge for the mess our nation is in.”
