The Oakland Tech ladies basketball crew will go for its second state title over the previous 4 years, — its second within the final two years through which a state championship has been contested — when the Bulldogs play La Salle of Pasadena on Friday at 2 p.m. on the Golden 1 Middle in Sacramento.
Oakland Tech (20-11) gained the CIF state Division IV crown in 2019 and was the Northern California consultant for the state Division II championship sport in 2020 when the onset of the coronavirus pandemic shut down the state event.
This time across the Bulldogs will play for the Division III title after defeating high seed Lincoln of Lincoln 51-46 on Tuesday.
“I advised the children it could be a disgrace to not end this off, so they could as properly give 100%,” Oakland Tech coach Leroy Harm mentioned.
La Salle (31-2) is on a 23-game successful streak after a 62-49 win over Porterville for the Southern California D-III championship.
“I do know they’re not an excessively tall crew and that they’ve been scoring within the 50s,” Harm mentioned Tuesday night. “I’ll get on the NFHS and watch a few of their video games.”
Sophomore level guard Audrey Chen leads La Salle at 14.5 factors and 4.3 assists per sport. Ryann Riddle, a 5-10 sophomore ahead, averages 9.6 rebounds.
Oakland Tech goes into the sport having gained 10 in a row after early-season defeats to the likes of Archbishop Mitty, Salesian, Bishop O’Dowd (twice), Clovis West, St. Mary’s of Stockton and San Ramon Valley.
Level guard Mari Somvichian is the main scorer for a younger Tech crew. Erin Sellers had a game-high 22 towards Lincoln. Sophia Askew-Goncalves had 14 rebounds within the NorCal championship victory and averages 13.1 boards per sport.
There are solely two seniors on the crew and neither performed towards Lincoln.
“You need to see a few the freshmen we’ve obtained,” Harm mentioned. “We’ll be superb subsequent 12 months. We're slowly closing the hole on Carondelet and Salesian.”
