Replace: The earthquake’s magnitude has been revised from 4.0 to 4.1.
An earthquake of magnitude 4.1 was recorded Sunday morning in northern San Diego County, the U.S. Geological Survey stated.
The quake, at 9:46 a.m., was centered in Palomar Mountain State Park, 18 miles northeast of Escondido and three miles from the Palomar Observatory. The world is close to the Elsinore fault zone.
Inside 10 minutes, the USGS Did You Really feel It web site had 650 responses, from the Mexican border to Riverside and Orange counties, and from the coast virtually to the Salton Sea.
It was the largest earthquake in California since a 4.8 on Jan. 5 close to Deep Springs, in Inyo County, and the largest centered in San Diego County since a 4.2 in October 2012 close to Ocotillo Wells.
