A plan into consideration by the Oakland Unified College District might shutter as many as 19 colleges.
Based on a preliminary draft launched by a faculty board member, “13 colleges – principally elementary degree – might both shut or merge on the finish of this educational 12 months and 6 extra might shut or merge after the next educational 12 months beginning in 2023,” writes Bay Space Information Group reporter Annie Sciacca.
“District officers cautioned that the record, which faculty board member Mike Hutchinson publicly launched earlier this week, isn’t ultimate. On Monday, the district will host a digital assembly with board members and the group to debate the proposed closures. The board is scheduled to vote on a ultimate record at its Feb. 8 assembly.”
Lisa Grant-Dawson, the district’s chief finances officer, says the district has misplaced about 15,000 college students over the previous 20 years.

- Manzanita Neighborhood College
- Korematsu Discovery Academy
