Elon Musk’s Neuralink fends off animal abuse claims after criticism of its treatment of monkeys

Neuralink, the brain-computer interface firm based by Elon Musk, pushed again towards criticism of its therapy of monkeys in analysis because the welfare of animals comes beneath larger scrutiny.

The corporate at the moment growing a mind implant supposed to assist deal with a wide range of neurological issues confronted backlash over claims that monkeys used within the challenge have been mistreated. Neuralink denied the claims in an announcement on Monday, insisting on its dedication to animal welfare.

“All novel medical gadgets and coverings should be examined in animals earlier than they are often ethically trialed in people,” the corporate stated, including that it has by no means acquired a quotation from the U.S. Division of Agriculture after inspections of its amenities and animal care program.

This follows revelation that the Physicians Committee for Accountable Drugs, an animal rights group, filed a grievance with the USDA towards the College of California for what it described as “invasive and lethal mind experiments carried out on 23 monkeys.”

Neuralink relied on the college, dwelling to the Davis Primate Middle, to conduct the mind analysis challenge because it homes and cares for monkeys used within the experiments.
