A powerful storm that moved into the Wasatch Front Thursday night and Friday morning left an impressive amount of snow for residents to shovel — and play in.

According to the National Weather Service, by Friday morning Spanish Fork had received 8 inches of the fluff, while 7 inches fell in West Valley City. Salt Lake City saw 5.5 inches of snow, North Salt Lake 3.9 inches and Park City 7.5.

The service also said parts of northern Utah will likely be bringing in the new year with some lake effect snow. The most likely time for a band to develop is overnight and into the early morning for areas south and southeast of the Great Salt Lake. The day will dawn cloudy, the service said, but will then gradually become sunny with a high near 22 degrees.

The Natural Resources Conservation Service snowpack collection meter reports Utah’s statewide snowpack currently holds about 7.1 inches of water, seven times more than on Dec. 9, according to data collected at noon Friday.
