Seven weeks and alter from Choice Sunday, the Pac-12’s outlook has improved incrementally in latest weeks.

Arizona, UCLA and USC stay on observe for NCAA Event at-large bids, lofty seeds and manageable paths into the Candy 16. However as a substitute of standing alone, they've firm lurking.

Oregon and Washington State are solidly on the bubble, and two extra groups, Colorado and Stanford, have entered wing-and-a-prayer territory.

As we solid a watch to the Pac-12 event, which begins March 9, the image is evident:

In an effort to acquire a good variety of NCAA bids, the convention will want a shock winner in Las Vegas — a 2022 model of Oregon State.

Anyone however the Wildcats, Bruins or Trojans.

Welcome to the Hotline’s up to date NCAA projections.

— For these unfamiliar with the NET rankings system: The results of every sport performed falls inside one in all 4 quadrants, primarily based on the NET rating of the opponent and site of the sport. (The categorization modifications over time as groups transfer up and down the NET.)

Quadrant 1: House vs. Nos. 1-30, Impartial vs. Nos. 1-50, Away vs. Nos. 1-75
Quadrant 2: House 31-75, Impartial 51-100, Away 76-135
Quadrant 3: House 76-160, Impartial 101-200, Away 135-240
Quadrant 4: House 161-353, Impartial 201-353, Away 241-353

Basically, groups wish to load up on Quad I and II wins and keep away from Quad III and IV losses.

Listed so as of NET rating (by Wednesday) …

Arizona

NET Rating: No. 2

File vs. Quad I and II: 4-1

File vs. Quad III and IV: 10-0

NCAA projection: No. 1 seed

Remark: See the ball, and the gamers, transfer: The Wildcats are averaging 22 assists (tops within the nation) on 32 subject targets per sport.

UCLA

NET Rating: No. 20

File vs. Quad I and II: 4-2

File vs. Quad III and IV: 7-0

NCAA projection: No. 3 seed

Remark: We sense a mid-season lull coming, and that wouldn’t be the worst factor for a tournament-tested roster if it created the chance for main momentum in March.

USC

NET Rating: No. 28

File vs. Quad I and II: 4-2

File vs. Quad III and IV: 10-0

NCAA projection: No. 4 seed

Remark: Mix the comfortable non-conference schedule with restricted possibilities for first-class wins throughout the convention, and USC’s path to a No. 1 or 2 seed isn’t as vast as these of Arizona and UCLA.

Washington State

NET Rating: No. 60

File vs. Quad I and II: 1-5

File vs. Quad III and IV: 9-2

NCAA projection: No bid

Remark: The Cougars received’t play Oregon on Thursday due to COVID points inside their program. The Saturday go to to Oregon State hasn’t been postponed, but — uncommon is the staff that solely has one sport impacted by the virus.

Oregon

NET Rating: No. 63

File vs. Quad I and II: 3-5

File vs. Quad III and IV: 7-1

NCAA projection: No. 10 seed

Remark: Oregon’s case for an at-large berth would profit from an enchancment in SMU’s resume from its present No. 64 NET rating. As marquee non-conference wins go, that one doesn’t pack a lot of a wallop.

Colorado

NET Rating: No. 87

File vs. Quad I and II: 1-3

File vs. Quad III and IV: 11-1

NCAA projection: no bid

Remark: Too many wins towards groups on the decrease finish of the NET scale and too few towards these close to the highest. There’s time to repair that imbalance, however CU wants a win over the Bruins or Trojans this weekend.

Stanford

NET Rating: No. 90

File vs. Quad I and II: 5-4

File vs. Quad III and IV: 5-1

NCAA projection: no bid

Remark: Why no NET love regardless of the 5 Quad I and II victories? Maybe as a result of half of the Cardinal’s total wins are towards Quad IV groups. Even so, we suspect Stanford would fare higher in a variety committee dialogue than the metrics point out.

Utah

NET Rating: No. 118

File vs. Quad I and II: 1-6

File vs. Quad III and IV: 7-4

NCAA projection: no bid

Remark: No wins since Dec. 21, and but the Utes haven’t slipped a lot. That’s excellent news for the convention in that a loss to Utah by one of many contenders received’t carry extreme metric penalties.

Cal

NET Rating: No. 127

File vs. Quad I and II: 1-7

File vs. Quad III and IV: 8-2

NCAA projection: no bid

Remark: Like various groups within the convention (Washington, Stanford, ASU and WSU, to call 4), Cal is way extra environment friendly on protection than offense.

Washington

NET Rating: No. 139

File vs. Quad I and II: 2-3

File vs. Quad III and IV: 6-4

NCAA projection: no bid

Remark: Had you informed us previous to the season that Washington could be within the NET prime 150 in mid-January, we’d have assumed you meant Washington College in St. Louis. (And I’m conscious that it’s Division III).

Arizona State

NET Rating: No. 151

File vs. Quad I and II: 3-7

File vs. Quad III and IV: 3-2

NCAA projection: no bid

Remark: The robust non-conference schedule and victory at Creighton proceed to maintain the Solar Devils afloat. And for that, the convention is grateful.

Oregon State

NET Rating: No. 207

File vs. Quad I and II: 0-9

File vs. Quad III and IV: 3-4

NCAA projection: no bid

Remark: Lose to the Beavers in Corvallis, and it’s a Quad II outcome. However lose on your private home ground, and it’s a Quad IV. In different phrases: Simply don’t.
