On The Urban Debate, with Tanvi Shukla, we discuss the decision of the Indian government not to charge tech giants like Google and Facebook for the news content they put out on their platforms. The issue was sparked after Shashi Tharoor asked the question about the matter in Parliament today. Minister of State for Technology and Electronics Rajeev Chandrasekhar responded that the government understands the risk of dominating a few companies on the internet but is planning no law. It is poignant to note that Australia passed a similar law in February of this year. Tanvi Shukla lays down some bare facts before joining our guests for the night. We are joined by Jaijit Bhattacharya, a cyber-expert, Rahul Narayan, an advocate with the Supreme Court, Karma Paljor, Editor-in-Chief of the EastMojo and a columnist Vikas Saraswat.
