Should Basic Rights Be Taken Away from Those Who Are Unvaccinated? | The Urban Debate

On The Urban Debate, with Tanvi Shukla, we discuss state Governments’ measures to advance vaccination. The Kerala state government has said that the unvaccinated teachers and government employees have to get an RT-PCR test at their own expense. A Karnataka Panel has recommended that vaccination should be made mandatory to get ration. Tamil Nadu is also going to fine unvaccinated people in public places. All of these moves are being deployed to up the vaccination numbers before Omicron arrives in India. Tanvi Shukla lays down some bare facts and tries to shed some light on the rules of different states. She asks the important question- is taking away access to basic welfare schemes the right way to ramp up vaccination? We are joined by Dr Chandrakant Lahariya, a Vaccine, Public Policy and Health Expert, Professor Dinesh C. Varshney leader of the C.P.I., Mahesh Verma of the B.J.P., Anil Anthony, spokesperson of the Congress party, J.V.R. Prasada Rao, former Union Health Secretary. #TanviShukla #TheUrbanDebate #SteppingUpVaccination
