Hiring activity shot up by 26 per cent on a year-on-year basis in November, thanks to the growth in retail demand, festive season fervour and the resumption of offline classes in educational institutions in various parts of the country. Banking and financial services, IT and software, retail, hospitality, education etc are sectors that saw the most significant rebound in employment numbers in November 2021. At 7.2%, India's overall unemployment indicates an uptick, however, salaried jobs and urban jobs have been areas of concern. Why is there a high demand for a certain kind of jobs but low demand for jobs on an aggregate level? Why do consumer sentiment numbers reveal a worse picture than employment numbers?
